Our Name a Star Gift explained

What is it star naming?

Star naming is an online gift service when any individual can symbolically attribute a name to a star from our star catalog. The name will be registered in our star registry and you will receive a gift certificate of attribution which can be electronic or printed, please refer to the product you purchase.

How do I buy a star?

Buying a star takes 3 min, choose your star gift pack and fill in all the required information: name, registration date, message and dedication. Then pay on the website and we will send it to you.

What can I call a star?

You can give your star whatever name you wish. It should be between 3 and 20 characters. Please note that we will not work with any kind of abusive or insulting content. If you submit abusive content we will not deliver your gift and we will not offer a refund.

Are the stars named more than once in the registry?

No, stars name named just once in our registry. With billions of stars in the universe, the star you name will be unique to you in our star registry.

Is the star name recognised by astronomers?

Scientists all over the world name stars in astronomical star catalogues such as the Hipparcos catalogue. Generally, astronomers give stars numbers rather than names to make identifying them easier. Though so of the brighter stars have ancient Arabic names. Naming your star is a symbolic gesture and is not recognised by the International Astronomical Union or wider scientific community. All the information about your star is kept only in our registry. We can’t provide any legal attribution to the stars.

What is the star registry?

Each time when a star is named on our website we process it and record in our star registry. From the Sky® Registry is a commercially-managed database in which star namings are recorded, administered and audited.

Our star registry is based on the Hipparcos catalogue. The Hipparcos is a scientific star catalogue in which all stars are numbered, we attribute a name to a number.

Can I order an additional copy of my certificate?

Yes! To order an additional copy of your star name registration certificate please contact our Customer Service at orders@fromtheskyregistry.com . You will need to provide your name and unique registration number, which can be found in your order confirmation email. Additional certificates are charged at £6 including delivery.

How long is the star name attribution valid?

Each entry in our star registry is registered forever. We do not remove any entries and we do not name the stars from our catalogue twice.

What is a custom star map?

A custom star map is a detailed map of the sky above a particular place on a particular date and at a particular time. It can be either in the past or in the future.

Which date and location can I choose for my star map?

Simply put, you can choose any date, past present or future and any location. Our algorithm works perfectly with any location and date. Please note that you can’t change date, time or location later.

WHAT ARE OUR STAR MAPS BASED ON?

We use an astronomically verified algorithm to generate your unique star map. We use a location (the observer point) and a date to generate your star map.

Not English Characters

We can’t guarantee that all the non English language characters will be displayed as you submit them to us as not all the fonts can display them.

Examples of characters that might not be displayed: è, é, ë, û, œ and other.

I made a mistake in typing my personal information, can correct it?

Name a Star or Twin Stars

To amend your Name a Star or Twin Stars please contact our Customer Service at orders@fromtheskyregistry.com . You will need to provide your name and unique registration number, which can be found in your order confirmation email.

If you need to amend your Digital Pack: you can change up to 2 fields on your certificate 2 times free of charge. If you need to amend it the third time or more, a charge of £5 will be applied.

If you need to amend your Printed Pack:

All the amends should be submitted not more than 1 hour after your payment has been made. All requests to change submitted longer than 3h after the payment is processed will be performed at an extra cost of £10 including delivery. Please bear in mind that any amends may delay the delivery of your gift.

If you need to change your Wall Poster:

All the amends should be submitted not more than 1 hour after your payment has been made. All requests to change submitted longer than 3h after the payment is processed will be performed at the full cost of the poster.

Custom Star Maps

We allow 1 hour to submit your corrections to star maps whether digital or printed versions. We are unable to change any information on star maps after one hour.

Do you check my spelling?

No, we don’t, we keep the spelling as you have provided. If you think there is a typo, please contact our Customer Service at  orders@fromtheskyregistry.com. Please note the changes might be charged an extra fee or might not be possible.

Can I check constellation in the Name a Star?

We allow 1h to change your constellation from the moment you placed your order, after one 1h we can’t change any constellation any longer.

How is the pack delivered?

By Email: 
Our Name a Star Gift is delivered to the email addresses you submitted during the checkout.

Delivery within the United Kingdom
The printed upgrades are dispatched on the next working day and sent by Royal Mail with 3-7 day delivery.

International Delivery
We send our packages by Standard International Delivery service by Royal Mail. We are unable to provide a tracking number for this service.

What to do if I am mistaken with the delivery address?

If you have provided the wrong address during the checkout, please contact our Customer Service immediately at orders@fromtheskyregistry.com.

Please note we will not refund or dispatch a new gift if you have provided the wrong delivery address and did not contact our customer service within 3 hours after placing your orders. You are informed about order dispatching by an automatic email sent at the moment the parcels leave our premises.

What shall I do if my gift has not been delivered?

If you have not received your order please contact our Customer Service at orders@fromtheskyregistry.com . You will need to provide your name and unique registration number, which can be found in your order confirmation email.

How long does delivery take?

We dispatch all the printed gifts on the next working day or the date you provide during the checkout:

Deliveries within the United Kingdom
Usually, it takes 3-7 days for Royal Mail to deliver our gifts. Please allow an extra 4 days during the Christmas period.

International Deliveries
Royal Mail aims to deliver items to Europe within 3 to 5 working after posting and rest of world destinations within 5 to 7 working days.

Can I return my gift?

Our goal is to give customers the same joy we have when we look up at the night sky. That is why we offer the money back guarantee for printed packs.

If your gift printed package does not correspond to the description, we will provide you with a full refund within 10 working days of return of your gift package. Please note that the returned items must be in good condition and sent within 10 working days from the delivery. You will have to cover the return postage cost.  Also you will need to explain what happened and why you would like to return the gift, you will need your registration number. All the return requests should be addressed to orders@fromtheskyregistry.com .

Digital packs can’t be returned and the money back guarantee does not apply to the Standard Name a Star gift without any addons (digital pack).

Can I cancel my order?

Your order can be cancelled up to 1 hour after payment for your purchase has been made. To cancel your order please write to orders@fromtheskyregistry.com . You will need to provide your name and unique registration number, which can be found in your order confirmation email.

I have a discount coupon how can I use it?

We may run promotion campaigns on coupon websites, the code you receive is valid only for one purchase and has the value disclosed on the coupon website for the products mentioned on the campaign page as redeemable locations on the coupon websites, please refer to the campaign promo page for all the details. The code must be applied during the moment of purchase, no codes can be applied to the past orders, no refunds can be issued.

If you have received a coupon directly from us, please refer to the T&Cs of your voucher which are always sent to you with the code.

If your code is cancelled with our advertising partner after you redeemed it with us, your star registration will be cancelled and the star name will be removed from the star registry within 48h. If you have purchased any addons such as a printed pack or a necklace with it, our return and refund policy applies, you need to contact us within 3h from the purchase on our website to request it. No returns or refunds can be provided if a customer contacts us after 3h from the moment of purchase.

My printed pack is not delivered, what shall I do?

If you have purchased a printed pack from us or a poster and haven’t received it within 10 working days from the moment of placing your order, please contact our customer service asap at orders@fromtheskyregistry.com

Please contact us regarding your printed orders within 3 months from the moment of purchase.

Which payment do you accept?

Paying for your gift is completely safe and secure, the payments are processed by Stripe using industry-leading encryption and fraud prevention tools. We do not store credit card details nor do we share details with any 3rd parties.

We accept PayPal payments and we add an extra fee for PayPal payments of 3% and min charge of £0.20.

Money back guarantee

We want you to have no surprises when you name your star. That is why we list all items you will receive in your gift printed pack so you know what to expect. If your gift does not live up to your expectations and does not correspond to the description on the page we will work tirelessly to get you the gift you expect or offer you a full refund within 10 working days.

Electronic certificates can’t be returned and refunds can’t be issued.
